COLUMBUS- Terre Haute South senior Jaylen Minnett had to come out of the game in the first quarter to treat an injury. During that span, Columbus North went on a 10-4 run to cut the deficit 27-22.
Once Minnett came back into the game, it created a huge spark for the Braves as they went on a 15-0 run. Minnett hit three tough 3-pointers during the run and the Braves went on cruise control in the second half to hand the Bull Dogs a 77-62 boys basketball Conference Indiana loss Tuesday night.
“Jaylen is such a tremendous competitor and he shoots the ball really well,” Terre Haute South coach Maynard Lewis said. “We’re asking a lot out of Jaylen. We’re asking him to rebound, get assists, and basically ask him to lead this team.”
Minnett, who has committed to play at IUPUI, finished with a team high 20 points while grabbing four rebounds and dishing out two assists.
Columbus North (5-2, 0-2) did everything they could to keep up the high potent offense that Terre Haute South (4-2, 1-0) displayed in the second half, but the Bull Dogs were playing catch the rest of the game after the huge second quarter run by the Braves.
“Terre South played a great game and had a good scoring attack,” Columbus North coach Paul Ferguson said. “Minnett shot the lights out and they are really a quick and aggressive team and are very difficult to defend.”
Another key difference in the game was that Terre Haute South was balanced in the scoring department with four guys posting double figures. Columbus North only had two guys in double figures.
Alex King led the Bull Dogs with 25 points, five rebounds and two assists. Zach Green added 13 points, two rebounds and two assists.
