COLUMBUS- Rushville had no answers for the Columbus East senior duo of Tanner McFall and Chaz Painter. They combined to score 38 of the Olympians 67 points to put away Rushville early and go on to win 67-33.
McFall got hot quick from the field scoring 12 of the first 18 Olympians points to put them ahead 20-8 after the first quarter.
“We did a great job of moving the ball around,” McFall said. “It was a real team effort tonight. I did not have to do anything special. I just kept attacking and my teammates had confidence in me.”
Painter took charge in the second quarter by scoring the first eight points. Max Nolting added a 3-point shot to extend the Olympians lead 33-15 at halftime.
The Olympians (2-3) sealed the deal in the third quarter when the Olympians went on a 13-0 run that was capped off by a McFall dunk. The Lions (1-6) got a couple buckets late but still trailed 50-21.
“I challenged our seniors to show up and play and played with high energy not only offensively, but defensively, as well,” Columbus East coach Brent Chitty said. “We blocked some shots and got some good help side defense. I really liked our effort.”
The Olympians got a lot of contributions from their bench. Wyatt Koopman had a couple of big buckets during the game and Carson Whitehead got valuable experience and put up four points.
“I’m pleased from our seniors all the way down to our JV guys who got in and got some great minutes,” Chitty said.
Austyn Farley led Rushville with nine points. Duncan Draper added six points.
McFall finished with a game high 20 points. Painter finished with 18 points. Nolting added 10 points.
